Water & Ice Route Plan
COMPLETED APRIL 2026
RC Strategies asked the Legacy Team to participate in this project and provide the tourism business feasibility evaluation and recommendations for this key economic opportunity component of the project. The water and ice route plan was a forward-looking strategy celebrating the natural and cultural heritage of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation and its special connection to the north shore of Great Slave Lake and its Eastern Arm.
The concept centred around a long-term vision and framework for formalizing the unique 200+ km transportation route to develop and implement a variety of water and ice-based recreation and tourism visitor experiences. Focused on generating sustainable, culturally appropriate and travel-motivating nature-based and Indigenous tourism experiences, the fundamental motivation of this initiative was to provide new economic opportunities for YKDFN peoples and the region and to continue ensuring members can remain connected with the land.
