In partnership with RC Strategies, Legacy Tourism Group assembled a seasoned team to complete the engagement, planning, and assessment work for three Tourism Development Zones.
The deliverables of this exciting project included pragmatic destination development plans, as well as determining best-in-class finance-ready opportunities that will ultimately be as compelling to potential investors as they will be to local communities and Travel Alberta. It included preparing a detailed, action-oriented Destination Development Plan and Implementation Strategy to guide the sustainable addition of major attractions, activities, events, and visitor experiences across each of the Tourism Development Zone (TDZ).
This involves feasibility and economic modeling analysis of bold concepts for accommodations, attractions, and experiences that will be necessary to help achieve the forecasted visitor spend in the TDZ; and facilitating a collaborative engagement process with key stakeholders identified in collaboration with regional planners, economic development agencies, residents, municipal and provincial departments, destination marketing organizations (DMOs) and Travel Alberta.
This work will foster a common vision and sustainable development pipeline to attract new capital investment to grow the visitor economy in each TDZ over the next 5-10 years.
Selected through a competitive process to work for Travel Alberta, Legacy has completed the destination development plan for the David Thompson Tourism Development Zone (TDZ).
The Destination Development Plan and Opportunities Assessment for the Northern Rockies Tourism Development Zone was completed by LTG in April 2023.
The Legacy Team has delivered the Destination Development Plan and Opportunities Assessment for the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo TDZ. A significant component for this region was the additional responsibility of completing the Indigenous consultation component with twelve different communities.
