Meet Debbie

Debbie Houle is Cree from the Elizabeth Metis Settlement and has been working as an artist and community builder in Edmonton’s Indigenous community for over 30 years.

She works to continuously grow her knowledge base and network of programs and services that support First Nations, Metis and Inuit organizations and communities. Her passion for community building has led her to work with the eight Metis Settlements in Alberta, the Metis Nation of Alberta, Edmonton’s urban Indigenous community and the First Nations in Alberta.

She has a strong background in Indigenous arts as one of the five founding members of Asani and has been composing, arranging, performing and producing original compositions in English and Cree since 1997. Since Asani retired in 2019, she’s been singing with AV & the Inner City, Mercy Funk and the occasional video ballad with Juno Award-winning artist Maria Dunn. She currently serves as a board member on the Edmonton Arts Council.
