Dave is a professional forester, professional biologist, and a seasoned sustainable tourism professional. He’s an innovative natural resource leader with experience in private and public sectors, and a strong strategic thinker and team builder, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills. With a deeply-seated passion for sustainability in business and communities, Dave is known for tact, discretion, high ethical standards, and the ability to lead teams to solutions in complex challenges.
For the last 25 years, he has been the Director of Sustainability at Canadian Mountain Holidays LP, the world’s largest and most experienced helicopter skiing and hiking company. As a member of CMH’s senior management team, he leads its sustainability approaches including governance, implementation, and reporting. He coordinates cross-functional teams in the integration of fiscal, environmental, and socio-cultural components, ensures that CMH’s approaches lead to its long-term sustainability, and is responsible for government (Indigenous and non-Indigenous) and community relations, and all land/resource tenures, regulatory issues, and environmental management.
Aside from his work at CMH, Dave has also consulted on sustainable tourism projects throughout North America, and has provided advice to governments, businesses and destinations in Namibia, Mexico, Sweden, Norway, and Jordan.
Dave is a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and was the recipient of a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal in 2012 for his work leading a tourism industry team in negotiations with the Province of BC to create Destination BC. He’s also a published novelist and a professional member of the Crime Writers of Canada.
