Martha Taylor began her outdoor career at the tender age of 16 as a camp counsellor specializing in leading canoe trips. Throughout her high school and university years, she led trips all over Ontario: Algonquin Park, Temagami Wilderness and Quetico Provincial Park became her summer homes. Unable to shake her desire to be outside, after completing her BA at Western University, she moved ‘out west’ to Vancouver and completed an Outdoor Recreation Management diploma. During this course of study, she started guiding canoeing and rafting trips in the Yukon and Northwest Territories.
Upon completing her diploma she moved to the Yukon and worked for one of Canada’s premier guiding companies for the next five years; guiding trips in the summer and in the office planning for the next season in the winters. While in the Yukon, she met her husband and Legacy top boss and joined him in operating Uncommon Journeys, a high-end adventure company specializing in multi-day dog sledding and canoe trips. In addition to this Martha has worked as an event planner, food and beverage manager, and executive director of a private school.
